Bishan Dass Radotra is Professor and Head of Histopathology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, working within its Division of Neuropathology, with more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
He is a co-author of Myopathology: A Practical Clinico-pathological Approach to Skeletal Muscle Biopsies, published by Springer with Balan Louis Gaspar and Rakesh Kumar Vasishta. Muscle biopsy is among the least forgiving areas of diagnostic pathology — the tissue is fragile, the handling is specialised, and the differential runs from the inherited to the inflammatory — and a practical manual written from an Indian laboratory is a genuinely useful thing to have produced.
His research interests are unusually wide even for a neuropathologist: angiogenesis in astrocytic tumours, ultrastructural changes in the microvasculature of gliomas, changes in the ageing brain, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-4 expression in medulloblastoma, the histopathology of leprosy biopsies, and rabies encephalomyelitis.
That last pair is worth noting. Leprosy and rabies are diseases the international literature largely stopped studying because they largely stopped occurring in the countries that fund the literature. A neuropathologist in Chandigarh sees both.
