How pathology training works in France

French pathology training is the DES in anatomie et cytologie pathologiques, entered through the national internat for French and EU graduates. Non-EU graduates go through the EVC procedure — a competitive knowledge verification examination — followed by a supervised practice period before full authorisation.

Important: The EVC is competitive with a limited annual quota by specialty. Passing the examination does not by itself guarantee a training or practice authorisation.

What you need

  • French B2–C1
  • EVC examination for non-EU applicants
  • Supervised practice period
  • Authorisation to practise
  • Registration with the Ordre
